“And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.’” (Genesis 9:12-13 ESV)
“When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” (Genesis 9:16 ESV)
I love to watch a storm and listen to the rain. The part I love the most is the rainbow. It stormed yesterday evening. I didn’t go out to look for a rainbow but would be willing to bet there was one. The sun was out and it was raining. Perfect time for rainbow.
God destroyed the earth and every living creature with a flood. Noah built an ark and brought in two of every animal along with his family. God sent his rainbow as a covenant between Him and us. He promised never to destroy everything again with a flood. He said that when He sees His bow in the sky, He will remember His covenant.
Are we included in His covenant?
What is a covenant? According to google, a covenant is “agree by lease, deed, or other legal contract. An agreement.”
Well, isn’t that what God said? He made a contract between us and Himself. He is holding up His end of the deal, but are we? Sometimes, I wonder. Does God send tornados, hurricanes, and earthquakes to get our attention?
Why would He need to get our attention? We aren’t listening for one thing. We aren’t listening for our Father’s voice. When we listen for the voice of the Father, our focus is on Him and not the world. We need our focus to be on God instead of worldly things.
We had a baptism and picnic after church. The kids all had fun. But I noticed, no matter what they were doing, when their dad called out to them, they turned to see what he wanted. That’s how we need to be. Listening for our Father’s voice.
Have a great day
