Obeying God

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15 ESV)

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” (Luke 6:46 ESV)

You know how your parents taught you to obey? If they were good parents they taught you to obey. At least mine did us kids and we did. We knew the consequences if we didn’t.

Back when I was a kid, parents were able to discipline their kids without being reported to child services for abuse. Now days kids threaten to call DCFS if their parents try to discipline them. I have a friend whose daughter threatened to call DCFS because her mom disciplined her. Her mom said, “Here, let me dial the number!” That was the last time it happened.

What do you think God thinks when He sees His kids misbehaving? I don’t think He likes it very much. It’s not easy now days to live for God. What with all the choices pulling us in different directions, it’s hard to make the right choice. I don’t believe that statement for a minute. God has set his laws in stone, literally. Moses spent a long time on the mountain, twice actually, getting them from God. Written on stone, by the way.

There are 10 commandments. Ten! That’s not a lot. That’s one for each finger. The list is in Exodus 20. Look them up and get reacquainted with God’s laws. These are not suggestions either. These are God’s laws for us, a guideline of sorts as to how we are to live.

God wants us to obey Him. He is our Father after all. We should obey Him. God wants our obedience. He wants us to prove to Him that we love Him enough to keep His commands. All the time, not just when it’s convenient for us.

The devil will come to try to derail us from God. Don’t let him. He will tell you it’s ok, go ahead. Everyone is doing it. Let me tell you it grieves God when we are disobedient. Let’s make God happy. Do what He wants us to.

Have a great day everyone.
