“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.”
(Galatians 6:1 ESV)
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
(1 John 4:11 ESV)
I was on my way to church last night when a pickup wanted to race. Up to the point when I tried to pass he was going slow. After the light turned green I pulled forward only for him to speed past me. Then the road went back to 2 lanes so I was stuck. Instead of him speeding up, he slowed down until I had a clear spot then he would speed up again.
This went on until a few miles outside Freeburg where I had finally had enough of him and had a clear spot to pass. I guess he thought my old car wouldn’t have enough get up and go to pass him. But there is still life in old Betsy. But anger tried to take hold. I fought it most of the way to church. But I won.
Angry is not how we are supposed to live. We are supposed to live with love and compassion in our hearts. I just wanted to strangle him. But I overcame that feeling and moved on.
I can just imagine the anger that Jesus would have felt hanging on the cross. But He wasn’t angry. He asked God to forgive them. He is a much bigger and better person than me.
So if you are holding onto anger today, let it go. Ask forgiveness and let it go. That is not how we are supposed to live.
Have a great day everyone.
