“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23 ESV)
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
(Revelation 3:20 ESV)
I was sitting in my recliner all kicked back watching Night Court last night, when my childhood church popped into my head. I was sitting in my recliner all kicked back watching Night Court last night, when my childhood church popped into my head.
I had fun in that old church basement. The kids would go downstairs for Sunday school while the adults had class upstairs. We sang our own songs. Deep and Wide, The Devil is a Sly Old Fox, The B-I-B-L-E. Climb Up Sunshine Mountain. There were others but it’s been eons ago and this old brain just don’t remember them all.
But isn’t it funny, something you haven’t thought about in decades comes to mind suddenly? I remember the classrooms, the kitchen where the Kool-Aid and cookies came out of and even the bathrooms. But the best thing I remember about that church, is that’s where I first gave my life to God. That’s where I decided I wanted to serve God. It was an easy decision. I had graduated to the teen class upstairs and our lesson was on the wages of sin. I remember the teacher telling us what her version of hell was like. I didn’t like it. Back then air conditioning was not common so we were used to the heat. But she said multiply that heat by a million and throw in constant torture. Then you have a description of hell.
I decided right then, I was giving my life to God. I wanted heaven.
Have you decided yet where you want to spend eternity? It’s an easy choice. Especially if you don’t like constant heat and torture. I suggest you choose wisely and quickly. Jesus is coming back soon. Best to be ready for Him.
Have a blessed day. Stay safe, stay cool and if you don’t have to be out, stay in.
