Passing Through the Storm

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

(Philippians 4:6-7 NIV)

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

(Isaiah 43:2 NIV)

I was awakened yesterday by the emergency system telling me there was severe storm warning for my area. Almost before I could lay my phone down and cover up again, it was here. I still went back to sleep.

Can you say that you can sleep through a storm? I can now. I was scared to death of storms as a kid. I’m not going to say storms can’t hurt you because some actually can. Tornados are nothing to mess with. But what about a storm of life? Can you relax when you have problems? Most people can’t.

I have problems relaxing when the devil is attacking me. But I am learning. I have learned to recognize his tactics. A special friend made me a really pretty bookmark years ago, and I still have it. It says “Recognize Your Enemy”. Words to live by. Jesus recognized His enemy. Satan tried to get him to bow down and worship him in return for all the kingdoms of the world. Jesus responded with a Bible text found in Deuteronomy 6:13: “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.” (Luke 4:8 ESV).

So you see, even Jesus had storms to go through. Even Jesus was tempted, but He never gave up. And neither should we. No matter what happens, God has already made a way out for us. He has built in an escape route for us. So when the devil comes around to try to get your focus off God, quote the Bible to him. He really doesn’t like that. So lets put the devil in his place. Spend more time with God.

Have a great day.
