Getting Older

by | Feb 26, 2022 | Blessing, Heaven

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.”

(2 Corinthians 4:16 ESV)

“The glory of young men is their strength, but the splendor of old men is their gray hair.”

(Proverbs 20:29 ESV)

I was watching a movie last night and one of the characters was an older man. His grandson commented on his age. His grandpa replied, “Getting older is a gift.”

I started thinking. I am getting older. No doubt about that. I have the gray hair to prove it. But everyday I wake up to face another day is a gift from God. There are so many of my classmates who haven’t made it to 66. I have been blessed to see it.

Growing up I always thought 60 was old. But now that I am on the backside of 60, it’s not all that old. The one thing about getting older is your body parts start to wear out. I have artificial knees and right shoulder.

My oldest brother told me getting older is not for wimps. I have always heard aging is mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. The funny thing is, I don’t mind getting older. The one thing that does makes me feel old though, is to see the kids I used to babysit now with kids of their own.

God is merciful though. He allows me to wake up each morning. He gives me another opportunity to serve Him. He gives me another chance to get it right.

But one day I will wake up in heaven. I am so looking forward to that day. When my time is done on earth and I head to my new home, I will be so happy. I will walk the streets of gold and worship at the feet of God.

I hope to see all of you and your families there too. Have a blessed day.
