“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.” (Hebrews 13:2 KJV)
“Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” (John 7:24 ESV)
I read something yesterday that got me to thinking. It was about a person judging another because of their appearance. I think we all have done this at one time or another. But we shouldn’t be. That’s not our job. That job belongs to God. I think we should love one another, help them, encourage each other. But how often do we turn away and walk off?
Think about the story in the Bible of the good Samaritan. Others walked away from the man who had been beaten and left on the side of the road. But the Samaritan dressed his wounds and put him up in a hotel until he came back. He cared for someone he didn’t know. How often do we pass by someone begging on the street? Do you help them or pass on by? I’m not saying we should give someone everything we have but maybe enough for a hot meal.
Years ago I was on my way home from church. I passed by an older man hitch hiking. God told me to turn around and pick him up. So back I went. We got to talking and he was trying to get back east to family. I felt for him. He slept wherever he could, mostly ate what he found and walked. I bought him a meal from McDonald’s. I took him as far as I could and gave him what cash I had. When I dropped him off, he thanked me and said God bless you. As I pulled away from him, I looked back and he waved. I looked away then looked right back and he was gone.
Did I just spend time with an angel? I believe so. There was no where he could have gone to in just a couple seconds to be out of sight. Was it a test of my faith and trust in God? Could be. I may never know for sure but I think I passed it, if it was.
Have a great day. Don’t forget to check on the elderly. This kind of weather can be hard on them.
