“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'” (John 8:12 ESV)
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good woeks ans give glory to your Father who is in heaven. ” (Matthew 5:16 ESV)
Have you stumbled in the dark? The power goes out, the house is dark, your toes find the corners of the furniture, even though you know where it is. Not a fun time. I have broken toes like that.
It’s the same thing if you stray away from God. Darkness creeps in and you start stumbling in the dark. It doesn’t have to be that way though. You can be the light that guides that lost person back.
There’s a song called Brother sung by NEEDTOBREATHE (and yes, I know it’s all caps and run together, but that is how it is on the lyrics page…) This is part of it:
“Brother, let me be your shelter
Never leave you all alone
I can be the one you call
When you’re low
Brother, let me be your fortress
When the night winds are driving on
Be the one to light the way Bring you home.”
How can we be a light in the darkness? First off, make sure you are living your life for God so your light is shining. Then be kind to others. I am still struggling with this in regards to my newest neighbor. He just doesn’t make it easy. But I will keep working on it.
Help others. It can be as simple as checking on an elderly neighbor, making sure they are okay. Making a meal for someone who isn’t feeling well. It can be a simple little gesture. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune or take weeks to do. Just be kind to each other. A little kindness goes a long way. You never know what someone may be going through and your smile and hello may be all they need to change their outlook. So I want to encourage you to be that light that shines in the darkness for someone. Make a difference in their life.
