My grandson Matt and his Kenyan-born wife Kui, are missionaries. Matt served three years in Africa with Nairobi Chapel in Nairobi, Kenya He and Kui were married there. The two of them served a year in Monrovia, Liberia planting a church. The Lord then sent them to the States where Matt served sixteen months in Chicago with Empower Chicago. Currently, Matt serves with New Thing, and Kui is completing her Masters degree in counseling at Wheaton College. Upon finishing the first year of her studies, Kui was recruited for a summer internship but faced one problem. She had no way to get to her assignments.
Meanwhile, one of their supporters, a lady named Debbie, also had a problem. Every day Debbie drove past a car dealership, and every day a shiny red Fiat 500 two-door hatchback grabbed at her attention. She could not understand her fascination for this car. She had a good car. She did not need another one.
As this was happening, Matt sent out their monthly newsletter, which made mention of Kui’s need for a car. Upon reading those words their puzzled supporter knew immediately that God intended that little red Fiat 500 for Kui. The only barrier was pricing. Debbie prayed about it and a financial amount came into her mind. She went to the dealer and told the salesman what she could afford to pay. The dealer tried to bargain, but eventually settled on the EXACT amount that had come into Debbie’s head, a price that was nearly HALF the sticker price.
“Before they call I will answer, while they are still speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24 NIV
God does, indeed, answer prayers. Sometimes in surprising ways.
