“Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy” (Psalm 33:3) NKJV
Easter morning in 1981, our clock radio came on about four o’clock and a women’s voice said, “let his joy fill your heart like a springtime sun”. I quickly turned off the radio and offered some undesirable comments, as to “who set the clock that early”?
I then tried to go back to sleep, but the words of that announcer kept ringing in my ears. I finally got up realizing that I was being led of the Lord to write a song. More words came, with a melody and by breakfast, I had a song. I was able to teach the song to the Sunday School kids that morning and we were all blessed by God.
Jesus Christ is Alive
Let His joy fill your heart like a springtime sun
Let His joy fill your heart like a springtime sun
Let His joy fill your heart like a springtime sun
Jesus Christ is alive.
Let His song fill your heart like a newborn babe.
Let His song fill your heart like a bubbling brook.
Writers often experience, ideas and words coming to them at the most unexpected times. I‘ve had thoughts for articles come to me while I sleep, sitting at my desk and even while driving my car. The Holy Spirit seems to stimulate us when our minds and hearts are open to receive. This can be during a period of joy or sadness as attested by reading about the background of many of the great hymn writers.
“He has put a new song in my mouth praise to our God Many will see it and fear and will trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:3) NKJV
I’m so glad that the Holy Spirit woke me up early that morning, to bless me and the children with a new song about the joy that Jesus fills our heart with.
Prayer: I thank You Lord for life’s wake-up calls. I pray that we will be sensitive to your voice when you call and respond with action. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen
