Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Animal rights activists will be pleased to note that a Chicago physician has reported he had to abandon his use of dogs in an ulcer research program.
The problem was not the guilty conscience of the doctor.
The difficulty went deeper: the dogs refused to get tense and worry. As you know, those qualities are almost essential ingredients if you’re going to get an ulcer. The doctor said, “If you inflict an ulcer upon a dog by artificial means, he will sit down and cure himself by refusing to be bothered about anything.”
It’s a shame that people don’t have the same sort of wisdom as dogs.
We worry. We worry a lot. We worry about a great many things. We worry long and hard.
Although we may not be able to sit down and cure ourselves, there is a solution to the problem of worry. We can give God our problems. That’s what St. Peter was urging Christians to do.
Those who follow Peter’s Spirit-directed advice will find their loving Savior really is concerned about them. He is concerned about their problems, their pains, their hurts, and their worries.
Jesus lived, died, and rose to show us that He cares about our eternal destines. However, He is just as concerned about our present day.
Today, let us endeavor to cast our anxiety upon Him.
THE PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help us to turn to You with our problems and fears. Grant us the strength and wisdom to turn them over to You so they might be replaced by Your comfort and direction. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
