She Doesn’t Exist!

I am looking at her picture, but she doesn’t exist. Not that she has disappeared. She just never was. I came across her picture in one of the files I had in my attic. Whenever I say “my attic” I expect to hear the theme from the “Twilight Zone.”That’s how bad it is. I should say “was.”  I just ventured into it over the weekend and began to clear it out. That’s when I found her. Back in the Fall of 1993, Time Magazine published a picture of a woman on their cover. She wasn’t “woman of the year,” or some famous actress.

Next to her picture are these words…”Take a good look at this woman. She was created by a computer from a mix of several races.” That was enough for me to purchase a copy. I actually spent hours just looking at her because she looked so real. The thought that she never existed and all rational thought of how she was created by a computer, made no difference to me. Over the years I forgot where I put this magazine.  I wanted to share it with others but couldn’t find it in “The Attic!”

Can you hear the music? 17 years later she reappears. Now I remember why I was so intrigued by her. I see her in a different way. I believe there are two of me.  The person I am and the person I could be. One exists and the other is imagined. The truth is, in order for me to become that other me I need to create it in my mind. Otherwise it will never be.  It is the image of me that God sees and exists only in the possibility that I see it, too. The difference is…she never was and never will be. I am and I can be all that God sees in me. In the end will God’s image of me exist?  That’s really up to me.
