The Bible says, “seek, and you will find.”

Apparently, that’s not always the case. Let me explain. For almost three months, British Petroleum’s broken oil well spewed somewhere around 200 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Two hundred million gallons is a lot of oil. Two hundred million gallons ought to be easy to find.

Apparently, it isn’t. ABC News can’t find most of it. Salvador Cepriano, one of the shrimp boat captains hired to skim off the oil, can’t find it. Even the federal government is having a tough time finding it. National Incident Commander Thad Allen said, “It is becoming a very elusive bunch of oil for us to find.”

So what happened to the oil?

Well, nobody’s quite sure.

That bit of news carried by ABC got me to wondering? What happens to our sins when we are given faith in Jesus?

The book of Hebrews says that God remembers our sins no more.

We may have sinned for a lot of years. We may have committed a great many transgressions but, because of Jesus Christ, the Lord remembers our sins no more.

Those sins are gone.

You can look for them, hunt for them, search for them. Try as you will, those sins are gone. They have not been absorbed back into our own personal ecosystem; they have not evaporated; they are not hidden away waiting for some researcher to discover them.

They are gone — completely and totally gone.

And that news of our disappearing sins is good news — good news brought about by the life, suffering, and sacrifice of the Savior.

It is, in short, the best news we will ever hear. Even better than hearing 200 million gallons of spilled oil is disappearing.

THE PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, for the Savior’s sacrifice I give thanks. Truly, the forgiveness of my sins is a great joy. Now, I ask that You will bless me. Let my life reflect my gratitude. Keep me from sinning; keep me strong in the faith. In the Savior’s Name I pray it. Amen.
