Clicking Noises

A click here and a click there, and then another click, and another click. The index finger keeps clicking on the mouse and the eyes keep watching the computer monitor to see the white arrow deleting and manipulating the colored spheres to come crashing down, in order to gain points and become the one with the most points.

Sound familiar? There are so many games online that a person can literally go crazy. I enjoy playing these online games, but sometimes, I tend to go overboard. Many hours can go by during such play. I have been wondering lately why I and so many other people spend so much time in front of a computer to win and beat someone else’s high score.

I guess it must be the excitement or the thrill of being ahead of someone else. Me first! The highest score achieved! You are number one! There is such a ring to that! And yet, it is becoming more and more evident that I have become a slave to the games and have lost my freedom.

John 8:34b, 36 – Everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin….If, therefore, the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. (NASB)

Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. (NASB)

I think of our Lord and Savior, Jesus, God incarnate, who deserves to be worshipped and to be “Number One”, but came instead as a servant. He washed His disciples’ feet. He came to serve you and me. He did not waste a single hour because He knew that His time was short. He walked for miles and miles in order to spread the good news about the kingdom of God. He even went as far as dying on a cross so that you and I may have both freedom from sin and eternal life—a relationship with God.

Galatians 5:13 – For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. (NASB)

Prayer: Lord, God, give us the strength and courage to spread Your message of hope and freedom to our neighbours. Help us to serve others as You have served us. Amen.
