Dion! Part 2

by | May 15, 2013 | Bible, Deception, Dion!, Truth

Hebrews 6:18 – God cannot tell lies! And so his promises and vows are two things that can never be changed. We have run to God for safety. Now his promises should greatly encourage us to take hold of the hope that is right in front of us. (CEV)

1 Peter 5:8-9 – Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack. But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith. You know that all over the world the Lord’s followers are suffering just as you are. (CEV)

Dion is thriving and growing. It is fun to watch and take care of him. When Dion first came to stay, I went onto the Internet to find out as much as possible in order to care for my Venus Fly Trap.

A lot of the information was controversial. One website said to set Dion in the direct sun on a window sill. Another one said not to do that, but that he does need bright sunlight in order to survive — just not direct sunlight. As far as Dion eating flies is concerned, one website said he can live for up to a year without a fly, but his growth would be slower. Yet another website said he needed two to three flies per month.

I was so confused. The authors of each website believe that they are correct. I didn’t know what to do. Which one should I trust? I have been experimenting with the different suggestions — trying one thing, then another. So far, Dion is doing okay.

In our lives, we are to trust God and His Word. So many times, differing thoughts and ideas and principles that sound really good are sent our way. Which way do we turn? Whom do we trust?

1 John 4:1 – My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world. (MSG)

This verse says we are to weigh carefully and to examine what comes our way. Does it line up with Scripture? If it does, we can trust it. Let’s be aware of the lies and discrepancies that are sent our way. God cannot lie. He is truth. Let’s run to Him for safety. Let’s be encouraged by these truths.

Prayer: Father God, thank You that Your Word is true. Thank You that You cannot lie. The enemy is a deceiver and a liar and wants to destroy us. Help us to be aware of his tactics and always, always line up our beliefs with Your Word that is absolute truth. We praise You. Amen.
