I have to say, there’s just hardly anything more exciting to me than seeing the UPS truck drive into my driveway. My kids used to call him the “present man.” When the guy hauls a cardboard box up to my door, I still get a little goosebumpy. It’s all the more exciting when I know I’m going to get to sign the magic paper-less clipboard. It doesn’t even matter what’s in the package–it’s still a big box of mystery. Parts for the dishwasher? Instruction manual for the lawnmower? That’s okay. It doesn’t matter how boring the contents, it’s suddenly exciting when it’s delivered by the big truck. FedEx…UPS…I love every delivery.
Our lives become exciting, too, at the point we’re “delivered.” Jesus packages, an eternal life full of adventure from the very moment we give him our lives. And we find that our names are written in the better-than-magic Lamb’s Book of Life–the uber-clipboard. Psalm 116:8-9 says, “For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living.” Out of death and into the land of real living. Our own special delivery is so much more exciting than the biggest and best delivery from the present man. AND, it’s never COD.
