One moment we were sitting on a shady porch in wicker rockers with big old shade trees surrounding us, then the next moment we were at a car rental at one of the busiest, most bustling places in the country-the Atlanta airport on a holiday weekend. Here, then there. It was more than a moment, yet it seemed so fast.
Here, and there. With air travel we are here, and shortly after we are there-across the country or even halfway around the world. With computers, we type an electronic note at home or the office, and instantly it reaches its destination.
With banking, our money is in our account; then we wire it someplace, and momentarily it is there. We buy or sell a home, sign an agreement here*and right away we own the home there. Here, and then there, in a moment-a twinkling.
There’s a saying, “Two things are certain in life: death and taxes:” Life, death; here, there. Now we are here, and then we will be there. The good news is that there is life in death.
Jesus said we could be where He is-not was, or will be. Just before Jesus left this world, He told His friends that He was going away and would prepare a place for us, so we could come there too (John 14:2-3). He also said, “Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19).
Here, there-that’s good news for all who believe in the saving grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
PRAYER: Lord, .for those of us who are still reeling in shock and grief over the death of a dear- loved one, please comfort our hearts. And Lord, please send to me today someone -who needs to hear the good news of eternal life through Jesus. Amen.
