“This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.” – Titus 3:8
In April 2004, Mak Shulist was battling an incurable brain tumor that robbed him of his sight. His friend Daniel Powers said, “The Make A Wish Foundation asked him to make one wish and it will come true.”
What 9-year old Mak wished for was a rock climbing wall, something he would have loved, something his friends will now enjoy on the playground at Ellisville Elementary in Ellisville, Missouri.
His friend Michael Stafford says, “He could have wished for anything, to meet the President, anything he wants. He wished this for us.”
Will Randall said: “I thought he was going to wish that there was a medicine or something, and he just wished for that and I was like, whoa, he’s nice.”
“It says a lot about the family and the type of person he was — selfless, thoughtful and caring,” said Dave Knes, principal at the 600-student Elementary School.
“We learned a lesson from a 9-year-old — that even when we’re going through tough times, we should be thinking of other people and not ourselves.” Mak never saw the wall, but he did hear a tape of his friends enjoying it just before he passed away.
The Lord calls us to be like Him and to devote ourselves to doing good. Are you devoted to doing good? Today in prayer, thank the Lord for His goodness and devote yourself to doing good.
“The supreme test of goodness is not in the greater but in the smaller incidents of our character and practice; not what we are when standing in the searchlight of public scrutiny, but when we reach the firelight flicker of our homes; not what we are when some clarion-call rings through the air, summoning us to fight for life and liberty, but our attitude when we are called to sentry-duty in the gray morning, when the watch-fire is burning low.” – F.B. Meyer
God’s Word: “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
