What You Took Away

by | May 29, 2000 | Poem, Sacrifice

Lord, I thank you for the blessings
You bestow on me each day.
But, most of all, I thank you, Lord,
For what you took away.

You took all my transgressions
And nailed them to the cross
So I wouldn’t have to pay that debt.
Your Intercession paid the cost.

All that pain and misery You suffered,
there, was meant for me.
But, You took three nails for me, that day,
And I’m so grateful, Lord, for what you took away.

Now, I could never quite comprehend
Why you’d atone for all our sins.
Your enduring love was manifest that day
And, now, I love You, Lord, for what you took away.
