If Jesus Came to Our Church

If Jesus came to our church, to spend some time with us,
Would things be done just as they’ve been, or would there be a fuss?
Would we even know Him if He arrived today,
Or come and go unnoticed, and would He want to stay?

Would you, dear pastor, ask Him to sing or preach, or pray,
Or would that break the order of the service for the day?
Perhaps if He was asked to speak, He’d preach on selfishness,
And drive away the tithers – now that would be a mess.

Would you be disappointed, if He preached nothing new?
But read from Matthew five and six, and then looked straight at you,
And said, “My Father told Me I can not be your Lord,
Unless you be my servants, according to His Word”.

And what if He then looked around, and then broke down and cried,
And said, “Dear Father stay your hand – its for these too I died.
Perhaps they’ll learn to love You if I could die again;
I’d gladly do it Father; I love them so….amen”.

If Jesus came to our church to spend an hour or two,
Would we be all excited – put on a barbecue?
Perhaps He has already come, and sang with every hymn,
But left alone with heavy heart – ‘cause no one talked to Him.
