“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” – 1 Corinthians 15:52
We knew it was coming.
My father and I had been walking down the beautiful hiking trails of Village Creek State park for almost two hours. It was then we realized something.
.we had no idea how much farther we’d need to go.
You see, we took an alternate route on the trail so we could end up at the access point near our campsite. Because we made this decision well into our hiking trip, and because we FORGOT to take our trail map with us (actually, it was me that forgot).
. We had no idea how much farther we’d need to go.
So we walked along and kept moving forward. We knew that as long as we stayed on the marked trail, sooner or later we’d arrive at the motorhome.
We kept our eyes peeled for signs of the campsite looming ahead. We looked for familiar markings, anything to indicate that we were almost there. Mainly, we kept walking ahead and looking for the end of the trail when our campsite would appear and our journey would be complete.
We knew that any minute it could happen. Up over hills, down into valleys, around bends, across bridges and through the woods we trekked on.
And then, in the twinkling of an eye, it happened.
We saw our campsite!
We had made it, and wow it was a welcome sight!
As we made our way to the campsite, I told my dad that walking the trail was much like walking the narrow road that leads to heaven.
You see, we don’t have any idea how much longer it will be until Jesus comes back to take us home. It could be today. It could be before you finish reading this devotional.
We see the signs. We see the familiar markings of His coming. We’re almost there. And so we keep walking ahead and looking for the end of the trail when our Savior will appear and our journey will be complete!
It could happen any minute!
Over the hills, down into the valleys, around the bends of life, across the bridges and through the woods of this world we must travel on.
And in the twinkling of an eye it will happen.
We will see Jesus!
He will appear for all who believe, and what a sight that will be!
Christian, you and I don’t know when Jesus will appear, but we know that the signs point to an imminent return. We don’t know the day or the hour, but the trail is most certainly almost complete.
We don’t know how much longer it will be.
But we know that He is coming!
