His Good Promises

“Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.” – 1 Kings 8:56

On June 16, 1815, Napoleon’s army engaged the Prussians at Ligny, Belgium. Led by the 72-year-old General Blucher, the Prussians were no match for the French. Blucher had 15,000 of his 45,000 men defend Ligny while the remaining troops escaped to the north. The much larger French army easily crushed the 15,000, but failed to pursue the remaining 30,000 men under Blucher’s command. The French believed the Prussians were soundly beaten and they would retreat to the Northeast. But Blucher ordered his remaining troops to the Northwest to aid British General Wellington at Waterloo. Bluchers troops began to falter and questioned if they could defeat Napoleon. “It can’t be done,” they said. “It must be done,” replied Blucher. “I have promised to be there — promised, do you hear? You would not have me break my word.” So the badly beaten Prussian army marched to the Northwest. Through the driving rain, they marched the twenty-one miles to Waterloo. Arriving, on the afternoon of June 18, they unreservedly threw themselves into the fight. Eight thousand Prussian troops died that day, but Napoleon was narrowly defeated because Blucher kept his promise to Wellington.

The Lord is faithful in keeping all of His promises. Today in prayer, look to Christ and trust in His promises. Know that He is faithful in keeping all of His promises.

“There is a living God; he has spoken in the Bible. He means what he says and will do all he has promised.” – Hudson Taylor

God’s Word: “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.” – Psalm 145:13
