“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” ACTS 4:12

A few people were collected around a blind man who had seated himself on the bridge over a canal in the city of London. He was reading from an embossed Bible. A man on his way home from the city was led by curiosity to the edge of the group. Just then the poor man, who was reading in the group. Just then the poor man, who was reading in the fourth chapter of Acts, lost his place, and while trying to find it with his finger, kept repeating the last clause he had read,

“None other name, none other name, none other name.”

Some of the people smiled at the blind man’s embarrassment, but the man who had recently joined himself to the group went on his way thinking deeply. He had lately become convinced that he was a sinner, and had been trying in many ways ways to obtain peace of mind. He made new resolutions, altered his habits, and took part in exercises, but all were ineffectual to relieve his conscience of its load.

The words of the blind man kept ringing in his ears all that evening and the next day. All at once it dawned upon his consciousness. “I see it all now. I have been trying to be saved by my own works, my repentance, my prayers, my reformation alone. It is Jesus alone can save; for there is ‘none other name, none other name, none other name, under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’

There is power in the name of Jesus. There are great names in history who have stirred the hearts of men: Alexander, Caesar, Napoleon, Lindbergh, MacArthur, and others. They, however, pass with the tide. They just seemed to “fade away and die.” But not so the name of Jesus.

His name stands for the same, yesterday, today and forever. Men have life through His name. And someday, at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow. God grant that we may be among those who shall rejoice in His name.
