"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth
for you." (1 Peter 5:7 KJV)
The reflection of blue lights flashed in my
rear-view mirror. Embarrassed, I pulled over.
"Ma'am, can you explain why you were
speeding?"
"Officer, I wasn't paying attention."
When I got home, I looked up the potential
consequences: a one-year revocation of license, lawyer and court costs,
license points, and so on. I felt nauseous. Rather than worrying
further, I prayed, "Father God, this license is Yours to take or to give
as You desire. I am in Your hands. I give this situation to You. I am
sorry for my sin."
I called my husband, and he called our
attorney.
"I might get the charges reduced by ten miles
per hour," the lawyer said, "or it could be reduced to 'improper
equipment'." He explained his rates. "Do you have questions? And try not
to worry. I'll do my best to get this matter resolved."
"Will you be with me in court?"
"You stay home. I will speak to the judge on
your behalf. I will represent you."
A few days later, my lawyer called, "Your case
has been dismissed."
"Dismissed? As in forgiven?"
"It's better than that."
"Better?"
"Dismissed means that we are acting as if this
never happened. It won't appear on your record, and you'll owe no court
costs. Your slate is wiped clean. Oh, and by the way, my services are
gratis."
The next morning, during my quiet time, I
read:
"For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to
forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee."
(Psalm 86:5 KJV)
God is good, and even if my license had been
revoked, I would still have reason to believe that this is true.
God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to
take the punishment for our transgressions -- even those far more
serious than traffic violations. Through belief in Jesus, our record of
sins has been erased.
Colossians 2:14 – Blotting out the handwriting
of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it
out of the way, nailing it to his cross. (KJV)
Through the shed blood of Jesus, our sins are
blotted out. The work that Jesus accomplished is beyond forgiveness; the
charges against us have been dismissed.
When I get to heaven, no one will say,
"Remember when you were speeding?" Not only was I forgiven, I was
re-made -- and the same goes for each of us.
"Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new
person." (2 Corinthians 5:17a CEV)
When we give our mistakes to Jesus, He blots
out the transgressions as if the situations never happened at all. Our
good God knew that we would need a Saviour, so He sent the best Lawyer
that mankind could ever dream about. Jesus Christ cares about everything
that we care about, and His representation is the best -- His free gift
to us!
Prayer: Thank You, God, for sending Jesus to
wipe my record clean! Amen.
