Over the past few parts to this series,
we have been sharing how God worked in His miraculous ways to not only
establish a Bible Club in a public elementary school, but to keep it open
and running, even with a non-Christian principle. But His miracles didn’t
end there...
Right from the very beginning, the Bible Club not
only drew students from my class, but many younger students as well.
Everyone was excited. We decided as a group to begin sharing what it is to
be a Christian, and every time we met, we would share times when our
Heavenly Father was very close to us. I would choose Bible verses that would
encourage these children to get to know the amazing love that only comes
from our Heavenly Father.
God was working on our
hearts, and He impressed us with the truths of
James 2:14-26:
"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith
but has no deeds?" (Vs. 14 NIV); "You foolish person, do you want evidence
that faith without deeds is useless?" (vs. 20 NIV); "As the body without the
spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." (vs. 26 NIV). We began to
understand that we were not only supposed to learn about what it meant to be
a Christian, but that we were supposed to demonstrate this as well. Soon
students from the Bible Club were making a special effort to help the
teachers, the janitor, the secretary, and even the principal. The entire
school knew that this was because of the Bible Club.
Not surprisingly, the principal liked that. He
began to see what being a Christian was all about, and it opened the door
for me to invite him to church whenever the was something special. He didn’t
always come, but you never know when a simple invitation will blossom into
something else at a later time. In addition, the kids experienced what it
was like to be Jesus’ hands and feet. They were excited, they were on fire
for the Lord.
How else would kids in a public school become on
fire for the Lord? How else would the heart of our anti-Christian principal
begin to soften? With our Miracle Worker in charge, everything is possible!
There is ALWAYS Hope!
