Windows of our soul. Majestic Mountain View Series, Part 31

A window of our soul

"Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!" (Matt 6:22 -23, MSG)

At one time, one of the schools where I taught had a third floor with four classrooms. Interestingly enough, the teachers in two of those classrooms always kept their curtains closed, while the teachers in the other two classrooms left their curtains wide open. Guess which students were happier? The ones with the curtains open!

That truly fascinated me.

The same is true spiritually. Many keep their spiritual curtains closed, and as a result, they are mostly in the dark all the time. No light from above can shine in their hearts. Just like the students in the dark classrooms, they miss something of importance.

Whenever we close out spiritual curtains, we miss opportunities to experience our Father for whom He truly is: a Heavenly Father of genuine love who guides, heals, comforts, answers prayer, and still performs "ordinary" miracles.

When I moved from Europe to North America, I had a hard time. The mentality was quite different than what I was used to. Still I experienced "ordinary" miracles that made a difference to me. At the university I was attending, a professor took me in and treated me like I his own son. He asked me to be his assistant, to type sermons, correct tests, etc. He certainly stood by me through thick and thin.

When I moved with my wife to Washington State, even there an "ordinary" miracle happened: a family adopted us and the lady of the house insisted we call her mom. She, too, was always there for us, guiding us.

When we were preparing for a trip to Southern California to visit my wife's parents, we had an "ordinary" miracle too. A Lebanese college student offered to house sit for us...for free! And what a superb job she did!

These few examples are just the tip of the iceberg. So many came through with "ordinary" miracles. After all, we were meant to love one another! (See 1 Cor 13:13)

May we open our eyes wide to see the glory of our Father as He manifests Himself to His children. Wow! We have a caring Dad!

May I suggest that you leave your curtains wide open? It will blow your mind!
