"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal
power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has
been made, so that men are without excuse." Romans 1:20 (NIV)
I have heard it said so many times, "I do not believe in the things that I
cannot see; therefore, since I can't see God, there is no God."
I feel so sorry for them. After all, no one can see electricity. Those who do
not believe what they cannot see must live in total darkness, for there is no
way they can believe in electricity. The same is true of wind. No one has ever
been able to see wind; therefore, those refreshing breezes during the summer
must be nothing but illusions. Gravity is another example. It, too, cannot be
seen, for it is a consequence of our planet rotating around an invisible axis.
Think how devastating it would be to mankind to live without gravity. We would
all be slung into the cosmos!
The fact is that when I drop a rock, it falls. This shows that gravity truly
exists, even though we cannot see it. The same is true for wind. We cannot see
it, but we can see the effects of the wind. Kites can be flown, and huge
windmills can grind wheat into flour, thanks to the unseen force that makes it
possible for the windmill to turn. This is also the case for electricity. Even
though we cannot see it, we see its influence all over our homes. Light,
television, computers, microwaves, etc., all come to life in the presence of
electricity. We cannot see electricity, but we can see its influence.
How could anyone doubt of God? His influence in our world is palpable. Flowers
bloom, birds find abundant food even through the odds are completely against
them. I have no doubt that my Heavenly Father exists, for He lives within me:
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with
you forever-- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it
neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will
be in you." John 14:16-17 (NIV) I see His influence wherever I go.
Some will point out, however, that disasters happen in our world. These
calamities indicate that something wrong occurred. Nonetheless, even during
duress, our Father comes through every time.
Otherwise, how would we be able to explain the following true story? A woman was
walking with her infant in her arms, beside the Payaswami River in India.
Somehow her infant slipped from her grasp and fell into the river. That poor
woman was out of her mind, and it didn't help that she didn't even know how to
swim. She yelled and screamed, but the only response she received was from the
squawking monkeys looking down at her form up in the trees.
Then the mom saw some movement. One monkey dove into the river, swam towards the
infant and brought the hapless child to his mother's feet. He then disappeared
into the trees.
There is a God who truly cares for you. Don't miss the opportunity to getting to
know Him. He is a fact!
